Youth Workshop: Artificial Intelligence, Peace and Development in Goma

The city of Goma and the Greater Kivu region have faced persistent security instability for years, marked by armed conflicts, community tensions, misinformation, and youth unemployment. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is spreading rapidly among young people through digital tools and social media. If misused, AI threatens to amplify hate speech, information manipulation, and violence in an already fragile environment. Why this workshop? When used correctly, AI represents a strategic opportunity. Faced with these realities, urgent action is needed. Organized by the NGO YCPD ASBL with the partnership and support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this workshop aims to build the capacities of young people in Goma. The goal is to empower them to become responsible, ethical, and creative digital citizens who can transform AI into a powerful tool for peace, social cohesion, truth, inclusion, and local socio-economic development.
